Sleeveless Coat

I tend to spot something I want and then fixate on it like a mad thing until I find a version I like. The latest obsession was a sleeveless coat. I have been stalking around after one for weeks. I desperately wanted the Victoria by Victoria Beckham one (see my pinterest feed for images) but it was too dear. Initially, I trawled the charity shops to see if I could find an expensive coat and detach the sleeves. No such luck. But, the other day, as I was passing my local dress agency I ducked in and spotted this. A Hobbs naval, sleeveless, wool coat with gold buttons. I am not a fan of gold buttons; they are just wrong, so I binned them and attached some beauteous, black, leather football buttons. It’s a bit oversized – but it works and I am excited by new outfit possibilities.

The second seasonal ‘must have’ for me was a pair of leather trousers. Having tried on numerous real leather styles I wasn’t too impressed with the way they felt on, and let’s face it, they are a serious investment. So I investigated leather ‘look’ instead.  You can’t move for leather look/leatherette trousers at the moment. Proceed with caution though. They easily look cheap and most of the cheaper versions I tried were either too shiny, too slippery or looked like bin liners. However, there was one exception, Topshop’s 02J35GBLK_2_thumb[1] ‘Joni’ (pictured here on Cara Delivigne) or ‘Leigh’ jeans which are around £40. They looked fantastic and have a pleasing, matt coating – but they just didn’t look like leather. In the end I chose ‘ The legging ‘ in black leatherette by Adriano Goldschmeid as they could easily be mistaken for the real thing but they’re washable and feel amazing on. Job done.

So glad to have been able to find your blog as I followed your previous one “Get Dressed In a Hurry” and was kind of sad when it ended. It was one of the first ones I followed when I started picking up on blogs as I loved your style. I just had a look back to some of the outfits you featured in 2011 and the pieces you feature there and the outfits still look so current which proves what good investment pieces you bought.

By the way – I’m glad you found your holy grail pleather leggings – I’ve had fun trying to navigate that fashion journey – it’s not easy but it’s been quite laughable.
